For Blue Castle Residents
Renters Insurance: What Residents Should Check
Understand the lease requirement, choose coverage with a licensed insurer and keep proof current.

Direct Answer
A landlord’s property policy generally is not a substitute for coverage on a resident’s belongings, personal liability or additional living expenses. Review your lease, speak with a licensed insurance professional about your circumstances and provide proof through the process Blue Castle specifies.
Before Buying or Renewing a Policy
| Review | Question to Ask |
|---|---|
| Lease requirement | What coverage, interested-party wording or proof is required? |
| Personal property | Would the limit reflect the belongings you actually own, and how are losses valued? |
| Liability | What situations and limits fit your household, pets and activities? |
| Loss of use | What temporary living costs may be covered after a covered loss? |
| Deductible and exclusions | What would you pay, and which causes of loss are excluded or limited? |
| Flood, earthquake or other risks | Is separate coverage needed for risks excluded by the standard policy? |
Proof of Insurance
- Use the resident name and rental address exactly as required.
- Follow any interested-party or additional-interest instructions in your lease or Blue Castle notice; these terms are not the same as adding another insured.
- Submit the declaration page or other requested proof through DoorLoop or the instructed channel.
- Confirm the policy dates cover the required period.
- Replace updated proof after renewal, cancellation, a carrier change or a material policy change.
If your DoorLoop portal displays an insurance-upload option, verify the document and property before submitting it. If that option is missing, ask Blue Castle for the correct delivery method.
If a Loss Happens
- Protect people first and call emergency services when needed.
- Take reasonable safe steps to prevent additional damage.
- Notify Blue Castle promptly about property damage or unsafe conditions.
- Contact your insurer for claim instructions; Blue Castle cannot decide whether your policy covers a loss.
- Photograph damage and preserve receipts without entering an unsafe area.
Insurance Decisions Are Individual
This page is general education, not an insurance quote, coverage opinion or guarantee. Policy forms, limits, exclusions and claim decisions vary. Rely on your policy and a licensed insurance professional.
Your Lease Still Controls
This guide explains practical resident steps but does not change your lease, property rules, written notices or applicable law. Follow the documents and property-specific instructions that apply to your tenancy.
